Sixty Five Members and their guests gathered at the RAF Club for the annual close of season Dinner to celebrate another successful year in the life of The Hazards Golfing Society.
After a very enjoyable meal, our Captain, Duncan Bateman, gave his ‘State of the Union address’ on our various meetings, matches and his attendance at both the Boys and Girls Championships during his year of office. He also thanked the various match managers, the committee and secretary for making sure that all ran smoothly. Whilst he enjoyed his year immensely, he was disappointed at just how quickly those twelve months had disappeared.
The guests were welcomed by our Immediate Past Captain Stephen Moore, a late stand in for Nigel Cotterill who had been called away at short notice to Atlanta, Georgia. Stephen was his usual entertaining self keeping us amused by his quick wit and repartee whilst not forgetting to welcome our all important guests.
Malcolm Allen, a friend of our Captain and fellow member of Ashridge Golf Club, responded on behalf of our guests in equal measure. He informed and entertained us with many tales of both his life as a professional soldier and his golfing exploits. He thanked the Society for their kind invitation and then proposed the toast to The Hazards Golfing Society.
The evening finished in good spirits with a nightcap or two, before departing for our homes and loved ones.
