Captains Day

The members gathered for the annual celebration of  our Captains year.  Stephen Moore awaited the membership at New Zealand Golf Club and brought with him blue skies and a cooling breeze.

Groups tee-ed off from the first and the sixth at 8.30 to play for the ‘Captains Salver’, the ‘Quaish’ and the ‘Veterans Cup”.  The Captain met the groups as they passed the watering hole at the 7th or 13th to dispense snacks and beverages to help them on their way.

Lunch was a splendid affair with some 50 members partaking of the excellent fare presented by a very accomplished chef.  It took much persuading to get the members back onto the course for the afternoon foursomes.

The Captain addressed the membership thanking those who had attended to enjoy a memorable days golf at a very well presented Golf Course.

Winning the Captains Salver – Steven Wilkins who narrowly pipped Michael Donnelly.

The Quaish was retained by Bruce Bevan-Jones who beat Jonathan Gilbert by the smallest of margins.

The Veterans Cup was won, for the second time by Michael Donnelly.

The afternoon foursomes was won by Peter Robinson and Alan Carpenter with a splendid score of 45 points beating Rob Bailey and Michael Katzler by 3 points.

Steven Wilkins thanked the Captain on the members behalf for his leadership and generosity
