Hazards at Hankley Common

Hankley Common GC meet on 21st March 2017

Our  first  meeting  of  the  2017  season  took  place  at  Hankley  Common   Golf  Club  near  Farnham  in  Surrey.  Dawn  was  just  breaking  as  the  early   starters  arrived  for  a  day  of  foursomes  at  this  heathland  course.    The   weather  forecast  promised  to  be  bright  but  cold  and  that,  for  the  most   part,  was  what  followed.

The  morning   foursomes  recorded  a  win  for  David   Spence   –   Sunningdale  (10)  and  his  guest  Jeremy  McIlroy  -‐  Hankley  Common  (13)   with  a  score  of  35.    They  were  followed  into  second  place  by  Peter   Robinson  –  Worplesdon  (6)  and  his  guest  Jeff  Archer  –  The  Oxfordshire   (4)  with  32  points.  The  team  having  recorded  the  best  score  on  nine   holes  were  Ben  Richards  (7)  and  his  guest  James  Hollis  (4)  both  from   Sunningdale  with  19  points.

The  afternoon  foursomes  saw  a  win  for  Hugh  DuVivier  –  Wimbledon   Park  (12)  and  John  Griston  –  West  Sussex  (13)  with  the  magnificent   total  of  39  points.    Runners  up  were  Mark  Roden  (12)  and  his  guest   Mark  Precious  (7),  both  from  Dulwich  &  Sydenham  with  37  points.   Richard  Morris  –  Woburn  (15)  and  Graham  Sutton  –  Ashridge  (10)  had   the  best  nine  holes  with  20  points.

The  course  was  in  fine  condition  but  the  greens,  having  just  been  verti-drained  and  top  dressed,  were  bumpy  and  slow.    Lunch  and  tea were  excellent.  Thirty-two  members  and  their  guests  attended  the  meeting   and  the  overall  impression  was  that  they  all  enjoyed  their  day.
