Played at Rye Golf Club – Tuesday 25th April 2017
A bright crisp day greeted the 32 Hazards who made the lengthy trip down to the south east corner of East Sussex for the second meeting of the 2017 season.
Several of the party had come down the afternoon before to enjoy a light lunch followed by eighteen holes of foursomes. Most of the group ten retired to the Hope Anchor in Rye for dinner accompanied by alcoholic refreshment.
The morning started with a foursomes completion that was won by Tim Cracklin – Rochester & Cobham (6) and Steve Coates – Woburn (12) with a total of 33 stableford points. They were followed by Charles Waud – Rye (5) and his guest/father Jeremy Waud – Walton Heath (6) with 31 points. There were four groups on 31 points but Charles and Jeremy were clear winners on a count back.
The afternoon was a singles event for the Charles Hawkins Cup played off the white tees. The winner was a guest, Steve Corrin – Beaconsfield (10) who won on a count back from Peter Dyson – Ashridge (15) who won the Cup.
The course was in fine condition, especially the greens that were true and fast. Many though that lunch was a little disappointing but overall enjoyed the day.
The weather started clear and bright with a chilly north east wind but gradually clouded over during the afternoon. Luckily any distant rain bearing clouds did not both our intrepid members.
