A touring party of 12 members were assembled to make our annual visit to the Aldeburgh area. Late injuries meant that we were reduced to nine playing and one spectating.
We were lead by Captain – Peter Dyson who was joined by Duncan Bateman, Jeremy McIlroy, Stephen Chappell, Richard Blanchflower, Tim Cracklen, Graham Sutton, David Downes and Jeremy Cary.
The tour should have started with a match against Aldeburgh but unfortunately Covid problems put pay to that. We were very grateful to Aldeburgh GC in that they offered us a round at member/guest rates.
Aldeburgh’s IPC joined one of the groups to enable us to play two foursome’s and one single to make sure that we didnt break the club’s strict two ball regime.
Our accomodation was once again at the Thorpeness Golf & Country Club where we were made very comfortable. Hugh and Sandra Smith kindly invited us for a BBQ at their home just a mile from the hotel – wonderful food and sumptuous wines ensured a most enjoyable evening. To them our sincere thanks.
Tuesday saw us play Thorpeness GC – a very pleasant holiday golf course that meanders its way through the heathland and its accompanying heather. Very pretty but difficult to get out of should you hit an errant drive. We dined at the Hotel and tried to make a sizable hole in their wine stocks.
Our last day was held at Woodbridge GC where we were given their usual friendly welcome. The course was in wonderful condition and much enjoyed by all.
After a sandwich lunch on the balcony we departed for home. A wonderful three days that always go so very quickly. Our thanks to Richard Blanchflower for his efforts in organising the tour and making sure that we were in the right place at the correct time.
