Today should have been The Captain’s Day but ‘Covid 19’ stepped in to destroy Peter’s event. Hopefully it will be re-run later in the year or next year at New Zealand GC. Nevertheless, 38 gathered at NZGC where we played for the Charles Hawkins Cup in the moring and the Austin Carris Memorial Trophies in the afternoon, events which should have taken place at Royal Cinque Ports and Walton Heath respectively.
We were blessed with some great golfing weather and played on a course in splendid condition. NZGC always makes the Hazards very welcome – our thanks to Roger Marrett and his staff for their efforts on our behalf. We lunched to the usual high standard whilst observing social distancing as best we could.
The winner of The Charles Hawkins Cup was Michael Robinson with 38 points just pipping Charlie Tunnadine who came in with 36. Best nine after several countbacks was Sam Andrews.
The Austin Carris Memorial Trophies saw our treasurer Mike Roden and Philip Payze in first place with 38 winning on a count back from our Captain, Peter Dyson and partner Andy Pollock. Best nine went to David Downes and Rhodri Thomas. Well done to all.
The Captain thanked the members for their attendance and looked forward to seeing them at Worplesdon on August 26th.
